Mojácar awards 2012 Golden Indalos

The Town Hall recognizes film director Antonio Hernández and the Rabobank cycling team

Mojácar awards 2012 Golden Indalos

ceremony attended friends of Almería province in Madrid on these dates. This year, the Indalo, the symbol of Mojácar village and of good luck, will be awarded in the category of gold to the Rabobank cycling team and to film director Antonio Hernández on 19th January at 2pm at the Almería Tourist Board Stand, located in FITUR’s number 3 pavilion, in the presence of members of the public, professionals and personalities invited to the event.

Those receiving the awards have in common the tangible synergies generated by their efforts and work, which have had a positive influence on the municipality. Mojácar Town Hall symbolically recognizes through the Golden Indalos those people or entities which have through their presence, ideas or projects contributed to awareness of and the image of the municipality.

Rabobank cycling team

The Dutch-based cycling team chose Mojácar as their training base six years ago, and every winter one can see the orange jerseys on the streets and highways of the whole region. Rabobank is a team which is clearly aiming high, and the proof of this is their presence on the podiums – 25 times as winters and 75 times as finalists – in 2011.

This year there is also a women’s Rabobank team, which will also be in Mojácar for training in February.

Mojácar gives the cycling teams a warm welcome, and this has meant that other European teams are now looking to the area as training bases. This is contributing to the consolidation of this interesting specialization for the tourist sector, and the launch at international level of the wide ranging sport-related potential of Mojácar, where there are now important private and public sports’ facilities.

Mojácar is an excellent place for practicing all sorts of sports due to its geography, climate and potential. With this Golden Indalo, Mojácar thanks Rabobank for choosing the area to practice such a passionate sport as cycling.

Antonio Hernández

Antonio Hernández, cinema director and script writer, is just another Mojácar resident. His affection and consideration for the municipality and its people mean he more than merits the Golden Indalo 2012: in his artistic work he has spread the word about the virtues and advantages of living in Mojácar. Mojácar, thanks to its light and the beauty of its countryside and architecture has for decades attracted many artists to live and work. Antonio Hernández is one of those, and Mojácar is proud to have him here.

Antonio Hernández studied at Madrid’s Universidad Complutense. He became known with his film F.E.N. (1979), starring the actors Héctor Alterio and José Luis López Vázquez. He created Zeppelín Televisión (1994-1999). He currently works for Zebra Producciones. In 2006 he directed The Borgias.
